Kitchen Serving Utensils in Copper and Brass
Workshop Fee: $510.00
In this three day workshop, students will learn how to go beyond entry level pieces and be shown how to make iron handles refined with detailed filing, and hammer-burnished copper and brass service ends, joined with rivets. Projects include a Fork, Spoon, and Ladle. A few different rack designs will be covered and tried, time permitting. These pieces make nice display pieces and are fully functional.
Students will be shown how the discretionary use of power and hand tools – an angle and belt grinder, a swage block, and hand files – and a notched anvil edge, can be combined to achieve a sophisticated result. Also shown will be how to achieve a burnished, nicely textured surface on the brass and copper ends by torch heating and hammering.
Materials Fee: $25 or current market price at time of workshop. Paid directly to the instructor.
Special Tools or Equipment to bring: The farm provides students with eye and ear protection, gloves, and aprons. Comfortable closed-toed shoes and street clothes are recommended. If you have forge tools you like working with, you are welcome to bring them.
