Introduction to Tinsmithing

Workshop Fee: $340.00

Day 1: An overview of the history of the tinplate industry, the tin shop and its equipment. Through the fabrication of a choice of projects, students will have the opportunity to explore the functions of the various pieces of equipment used in the manufacture of useful, historically accurate tin-plate objects such as wall sconces, chamber sticks, and cups.. Tools such as shears, stakes, swedges, rotary tools, riveting and soldering equipment will be explained and put into use.

Day 2: Students will continue to practice the techniques learned on day 1 in order to complete their projects.

Materials Fee: $50 paid directly to the instructor. Fee covers tin and consumables.
