Folk Knitting Stitches and Techniques
Workshop Fee: $288.00
Spend 2 days with master knitting instructor, Donna Kay, learning a selection of folk knitting stitches and techniques: Latvian lace edging, Norwegian stranded colorwork, Scandinavian twined knitting, Austrian twisted stitches, and Estonian color inlay (roositud). You will knit a customized sampler cowl incorporating these techniques with your choice of patterns and colors.
This is an Intermediate skills level workshop requiring experience with circular needles.
Materials Fee: $5 for handouts paid directly to the instructor.
Special Tools or Equipment to bring:
- Yarn: Bring 100g of a smooth, plied, light colored worsted weight yarn for your main color + smaller amounts of a few contrasting colors (a contrasting tonal or variegated yarn would work fine). For the twined knitting, you need approximately 1 ounce of your main color wound into a center pull ball. (Note: you will be knitting a cowl, so keep that in mind when making your yarn choices. A wool or a wool blend will work best. The sample was knit with Knit Picks Wool of the Andes.
- Needles: Please bring a 16” or 24” circular needle, US size 7 (4.5mm) or the size needed to obtain a stockinette st gauge of 5 sts/”. Suitable for magic loop. The circumference of the cowl is approximately 22”, so bring the length needle you are comfortable working with.
- Notions: Stitch markers, scissors, tapestry needle, cable needle, pen or pencil for notes
