Meaningful Rug Hooking: Planning and Design
Workshop Fee: $288.00
Traditional rug hooking is a time-honored American craft where fabric strips are pulled through a backing to form loops, creating rich textures and patterns. In this class, students will explore how to put a modern spin on this classic technique by developing their own unique styles.
Participants will dive into the use of color, value, and intensity to tell compelling stories and evoke emotion, while also exploring how hidden symbols and thoughtful composition can deepen the meaning of each piece. Students will explore how to use color, value, and intensity (dull vs. bright) to communicate specific ideas and emotions. We’ll work on designing new projects from the ground up, as well as reimagining works-in-progress that may feel stuck or unresolved.
This is an all-levels class and beginners are welcome. Experienced students are encouraged to bring current projects or start something new. You’re welcome to use your own supplies or select from the materials provided by the instructor.
Materials Fee: $100 paid directly to the instructor. Fee covers a frame, a hook, backing, and bolt wool. If students have any of these items, it will be less. If they have all of these items, the materials fee is $0! If dyed wool is chosen for your project, the cost may be more than the bolt of wool.
Special Tools or Equipment to bring: Students will need a frame or hoop and a hook. The instructor will bring a cutter, but students are encouraged to bring their own as well.
