Forge Your Own Chopsticks!
Workshop Fee: $340.00
Be the envy of everyone at your favorite sushi bar! This course will teach you how to forge and finish your own set of stainless-steel chopsticks. Students will forge two pieces of thin, round stock into long, faceted square chopsticks with a round taper at the end. In addition, each student will add a decorative twist to the tops of their chopsticks.
Forging one of something is relatively easy. This course will focus on forging two pieces that are the same width, length, and feel natural and symmetrical when using them to grip and eat food. Chopsticks must feel natural and balanced in the hand and accomplish the job of transporting food to the mouth! This course will also provide instructions on how to work with and finish stainless steel. It’s a bit more finicky as compared to mild steel. If time permits, students will fashion a rest for their chopsticks.
This class is suitable for complete beginners, but expect a steeper learning curve (and perhaps more “rustic” chopsticks…”). Students with a couple of blacksmithing classes under their belt will do great in this class.
