Exploration of Color and Design with Natural Dye Paste

Layer color on cloth using natural dye print pastes. Using a variety of dye materials, both from the garden and extracts, students will create a rainbow to print color on cloth. In addition to covering the how-to, students will dive into the history of printed patterns and learn about the artists who have made some of the most recognizable and influential patterns throughout history.

Skills and Techniques:

• Learn basic silk screen techniques and stencil making
• Make color charts and create layered prints on cotton
• Make natural dye print pastes from foraged materials and extracts and successfully print color on cloth
• Take home silk screens and silk screen tools to continue working at home, along with color charts, printed artwork, and instructions

Materials Fee: $90 – 120 paid directly to the instructor.

Special Tools or Equipment to bring: Notebook and an open mind.
