Sculptural Twining
Workshop Fee: $720.00
In this busy five-day workshop, I will introduce the off-loom weaving technique of twining as a method of creating contemporary sculptural woven forms. Twining is an ancient basketry technique, possibly as old as 2 million years, that co-evolved in multiple cultures across the globe – from Africa, to the Bering Strait, to Sumer. We will utilize both waxed linen as well as reed, and will cover several different ways of starting pieces. I will teach you how to turn, split, and join forms, giving you lots of methods for inventing your own shapes. Most of all, we will have fun creating new forms with this prehistoric basketry technique.
This workshop is open to all levels of experience.
