Raised Copper Vessels

Workshop Fee: $510.00

In this 3-day workshop we will explore the process of raising sheetmetal hollow vessels. Starting with a flat sheet transforming into a vertical hollow form through the use of various hammers and stake anvils.

We will begin the workshop working through the process and ideas on a small tin-lined copper drinking cup before moving on to a larger student designed project. Examples being flower vases, pitchers, sculptural vessels etc.

Students should expect long fun days of hammering while the tools and materials are on the smaller side raising is a physically demanding process.

Skills and Techniques:

  • annealing copper
  • safe torch operations
  • dishing sheet metal
  • hand wiped tin lining
  • stake anvil use
  • copper patinas/finishes

 

Materials Fee: $40-45, subject to current market pricing at time of workshop.

Special Tools or Equipment to bring: A notebook and any personal raising hammers you may have and want to use.
