Rosa Chang
Rosa Chang is an artist based in Baltimore and New York whose work is deeply rooted in cultivating a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. Inspired by natural materials and environments, she creates across various forms, mediums, and scales. Since 2015, Rosa has focused on sharing the cultural significance of Korean and other Asian indigo and natural dye traditions through community engagement and cross-cultural exchange.
She developed her own curriculum, Mindful Colors: Natural Dyeing, and teaches as an adjunct faculty member in the Fiber Department at the Maryland Institute College of Art. She also serves as Executive Director of Hand Papermaking, Inc., a nonprofit publication dedicated to preserving and advancing both traditional and contemporary hand papermaking practices.
In May 2023, Rosa released her debut picture book, My Indigo World, which she both authored and illustrated. The book has received wide acclaim, including being named a 2023 New York Public Library Best Book and a 2024 NSTA-CBC Outstanding Science Trade Book. It was also selected for the Texas Topaz Nonfiction Reading List, the 2024 CCBC Choices list, and Bank Street College of Education’s Best Children’s Books of the Year. Most recently, My Indigo World was chosen as Maryland’s 2024 “Great Reads from Great Places” Library of Congress Children’s Book Selection for the National Book Festival.
In June 2025, Rosa’s Mindful Colors class and My Indigo World were featured on the CBS Morning Show.
