Rivet, Rivet: Mixed Metal Pendant with Jolynn Santiago
Riveting is a versatile process with many variations. This workshop, which takes place September 27-28, will focus on the basic rivet: a metal pin with a shank and two nail heads. Under the guidance of instructor Jolynn Santiago, participants will design and create a pendant while learning to saw with a jeweler’s saw, file and sand edges, and apply unique textures. Along the way, Jolynn will share her expertise in setting up a small home workspace for riveting and sourcing the right tools and materials. By the final day, the group will gather to share and discuss their finished projects, leaving with a piece of handmade jewelry, a solid understanding of the riveting process, and the confidence to continue the practice at home. The workshop welcomes all skill levels, from beginners eager to explore a new craft to experienced makers seeking to expand their repertoire.
Jolynn Santiago has been pursuing a career as an artist, jeweler, and educator for over a decade. She earned her BFA in Jewelry | Enameling from Kent State University and her MFA in Metal from The State University of New York at New Paltz, and she teaches workshops at craft schools across the country as well as from her studio in Charlotte, Vermont. Her work has been exhibited both in the United States and abroad, including at SCHMUCK 2023, one of the world’s most prestigious exhibitions for contemporary jewelry. It has also been featured in multiple publications, including Tools of Transformation: Redefining Craft in Contemporary Jewellery published on Klimt02.net, and FLOW: Searching for Infinity in Metalsmith Magazine.
