Introduction to Tinsmithing
Workshop Fee: $420.00
Join us for our first Tinsmithing workshop at Sanborn Mills Farm! We are excited to offer this Beginning/Intermediate 3-day experience taught by the talented Olof Jansson in our new loft studio above woodworking. This workshop will focus on learning fundamental skills with the opportunity to make a variety of forms.
Day 1: An overview of the history of the tinplate industry, the tin shop and its equipment. Students will have the opportunity to learn the functions of and experience the various pieces of equipment such as shears, stakes, swedges, and rotary tools, riveting and soldering equipment.
Day 2: Students will put into practice techniques learned in day 1 to draft patterns for and create a choice of small projects such as a wall sconce, a chamber stick, and a cup. Time allowing, work to begin on day 3’s project, a cylindrical candle box.
Day 3: Work to continue to completion on cylindrical candle box.
Materials Fee: $50 paid directly to the instructor.
