Designing and Making Decorative Inlay Boxes

This three-day woodworking workshop will focus on creating elegant boxes enhanced with decorative string inlays. This immersive course is perfect for woodworkers looking to expand their skills and add refined craftsmanship to their small projects.
Over the first two days, you’ll dive into the art of box design and construction. Throughout the process, you’ll be guided through every step of crafting a beautiful, functional box, from selecting materials that highlight the natural beauty of the wood, to cutting accurate joinery to assembling the final piece. We’ll also explore finishing options that bring out the best in your wood selection, with a focus on achieving a professional, long-lasting result.
On day three we’ll shift our focus to the art of string inlay. You’ll learn how to incorporate this classic decorative technique into your box design, adding a layer of elegance and craftsmanship. We’ll cover everything from making inlay stringing, to laying out, cutting, and installing the inlay with precision using both hand tools and routers. Special attentional will be given to techniques for both straight and curved inlay patterns, allowing you to customize your box with intricate designs.

Materials Fee: $85 paid directly to the instructor.
Special Tools or Equipment: Card scraper. The following tools are suggested but not required: Cutting gauge, digital calipers, Lie Nielsen or Veritas inlay tools
