Spring Has Sprung During
A Successful Opening Weekend!
Spring has officially arrived at Sanborn Mills Farm, and with it came a joyful and bustling opening weekend that welcomed students, teachers, and visitors back to the rhythms of the season. As the snow receded and the soil softened, our first workshops of the year filled the campus with the familiar sounds of tools at the bench, conversation around dye pots, and the quiet focus of hands at work.
The weekend began with our Natural Dye Study Group gathering for a vibrant Dye Day, where fiber was transformed with plant-based colors and shared knowledge. On Saturday, participants in Sharpening Hand Tools leaned into the satisfying work of restoring edges and caring for the tools that make craft possible. In another corner of the farm, the steady rhythm of needles marked the welcome of the Folk Knitting workshop to the farm, where tradition and creativity intertwined stitch by stitch.
Outside the workshops, the farm itself was stirring awake. The early snow glories and snowdrops pushed bravely through the dark earth. In the barn, new lambs arrived just in time to greet workshop participants, their soft bleats reminding us that spring is a time of beginnings, growth, and renewal.
Opening weekend felt like a homecoming. After the long winter months, it was heartening to see our community gather again to learn, make, and care for the land together. These early signs of spring—both in the fields and in our classrooms—signal the start of another season of shared knowledge, skilled hands, and meaningful connection.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us for this first weekend and look forward to many more days of learning, laughter, and discovery in the months ahead.
