Build Confidence in the Woodshop:
A Weekend Workshop with Gabriele Tise
Whether you’re completely new to woodworking or looking to build a stronger foundation, this weekend workshop offers a welcoming, hands-on environment to help you gain confidence in the woodshop. Designed with beginners in mind, the class focuses on safe, practical skills through the completion of two simple yet essential projects: a hand-crafted wooden mallet and a tool tote.
As students work through their projects, they’ll learn how to safely operate stationary woodworking machines such as the table saw, bandsaw, and router table. Along the way, instructor Gabriele Tise will guide participants through the fundamentals of project planning and material selection, with an emphasis on using accessible materials commonly found at local hardware and home improvement stores.
In addition to machine use, students will gain experience with layout and measuring tools, hand tools, and drill/drivers—building a solid base of practical knowledge that can be carried into future projects. The workshop is about more than just tools and techniques; it’s about cultivating confidence and encouraging creativity in a supportive setting.
The class is led by Gabriele Tise, a furniture maker and woodworker based in Portsmouth, NH. Since 2006, Gabriele has worked on high-end custom homes along the New Hampshire Seacoast and Coastal Southern Maine. A self-taught furniture designer, her work leans contemporary while staying rooted in tradition, especially in her use of classic joinery methods. She operates Tise Woodwork and Design, a custom architectural millwork business, and runs her fine furniture practice out of The Button Factory Studios.
With her wealth of experience and approachable teaching style, Gabriele brings a thoughtful, empowering energy to the workshop—making it the perfect place to begin or continue your woodworking journey.
