April 13, 2015
The snow has almost melted and the sounds of farm activities can be heard through the morning air. Work on the farm takes many talented and hard working hands.
Congratulations to Tim Huppe who is now serving as General Manager of Sanborn Mills Farm. Under his able and experienced leadership, the farm will be both productive and well managed!
This season we welcome oxen teamster Jonathon Tyler Allen. Tyler has a long history with New Hampshire 4-H Working Steers Program and will be keeping our two teams of oxen busy and in shape.
Welcome to our 2015 summer Farm Intern Elaina Enzien who will be helping with the our sustainable agriculture program from May through August. Farm Educator Tom McQuade is also looking for volunteers who want to help with the vegetable gardens and learn about seed saving! If interested, please contact tom@sanbornmills.org soon!
Maple sugaring season started a little late this year but it was a good one. We thank Marty and Anne Bosivert for their hard work in keeping the farm’s sugar bush productive. We’ll have a report out soon on how many gallons were tallied this year.
The 2015 craft and gardening workshops are now underway. Spring is the perfect time to consider signing up for a workshop on how to feed your garden with natural organic compost. Click here for information on the May 16 workshop.
Have you always wanted to try your hand at fly tying and do a little fly fishing with an experienced fisherman? Sign up for the Fly Tying & Fishing workshop on June 6 & 7 taught by master fly tyer and licensed fishing guide Bob Wyatt.
Blacksmithing is more popular than ever so if you are fired up for some hands-on experience in this traditional craft, we recently added a Beginning Blacksmithing workshop on June 26 – 28 and another one on July 24 to 26. Instructor Garry Kalajian will help you through all the basics. Don’t have a forge at home? Come for one of our many “Open Forge” days.
You can view our entire line up of workshops and register right from our website. View them as a list or by month.
June is just around the corner, so please put June 14 on your calendar and come enjoy Sanborn Mills Farm’s annual Open House & Water-Powered Mill Demonstrations. This is a special opportunity to see the sawmill and gristmill in operation, watch the draft horses in action, meet the oxen, and learn about our new seed saving program. Click here for more information.
