Hand Tool Joinery with Owain Harris

Hand Tool Joinery, scheduled for June 28–29, is an immersive two-day workshop led by award-winning furniture maker Owain Harris. Designed for individuals at all skill levels who want to explore the art of traditional joinery using hand tools, the course offers a hands-on deep dive into essential woodworking joints such as through dovetails, half-blind dovetails, mortise and tenons, and through wedged tenons. The curriculum emphasizes foundational skills including chisel sharpening, precise layout and marking, and the confident use of hand saws and chisels. Students will also develop their ability to troubleshoot imperfect joints—an essential step toward mastering precision joinery.

Owain Harris is a self-taught woodworker who operates a furniture studio in Gonic, New Hampshire, where he designs and builds custom furnishings for galleries and private clients. His journey began in 1997 as a framing carpenter and evolved through finish carpentry and remodeling before moving full-time into fine woodworking in 2008. A juried member of both the League of NH Craftsmen and the New Hampshire Furniture Masters Association, Owain’s work has earned accolades including a Pinnacle Award from the International Society of Furniture Designers and the Veneertech Craftsman Challenge Award.
