Explorations in Autumn Eco-Printing with Katama Murray

This fall, immerse yourself in the colors, textures, and rhythms of the season during a three-day eco-printing workshop at Sanborn Mills Farm with artist and educator Katama Murray of Teach Peace Prints. Participants will explore how to transform foraged plants and food waste into vibrant pigments for printing on fabric and paper, capturing the unique hues of autumn leaves such as maples and sumacs.

Over the course of the workshop, students will learn to prepare fabrics for dyeing, create eco-prints on cotton, linen, silk, and watercolor paper, and incorporate their prints into hand-bound books. Blending outdoor foraging, studio printmaking, fiber arts, and bookmaking, the class encourages intuitive experimentation and collaboration with the natural world. Students are also invited to bring a favorite fabric item from home to recycle into a new piece infused with the memory of the weekend. All levels of experience are welcome.

Katama Murray, founder of Teach Peace Prints, is an eco-artist and naturalist whose work honors the patterns, colors, and cycles of the New England landscape. With a BFA from Plymouth State University and an MFA from Indiana University–Bloomington, she has taught and exhibited widely throughout the region. Her practice is rooted in sustainable, seasonally inspired making, offering one-of-a-kind works and workshops that foster deeper connections to place and community.

Autumn Eco Printing

Discover the art of fire and steel this October at Sanborn Mills Farm. Blacksmithing Basics introduces essential forging techniques and hammer control, while Forged Kitchen Knife guides students through the process of crafting a functional blade from start to finish. In Candle Holders: Use Your Peen, participants explore peening techniques to create textured, decorative holders. Each workshop offers hands-on learning and projects to take home.
