Every year at Sanborn Mills Farm, we see the way a single workshop can change someone’s life. A student arrives with curiosity and leaves with not only a new skill but also a sense of belonging in a community that values tradition, craftsmanship, and sustainability. Yet for many, the cost of a workshop is a barrier. That’s why our Scholarship Fund exists—to open doors and ensure that anyone with the desire to learn has the chance to do so.

Megan Larson, a 2025 scholarship recipient, shared: “I feel so lucky to have received a scholarship to attend a class at Sanborn Mills Farm. Without this generous support, I would not have been able to attend the course. I’m incredibly grateful for the quality instruction, delicious food, and beautiful landscape. My time at Sanborn Mills led to a deeper understanding of my craft and helped me build meaningful connections in the field.”

Another scholarship recipient, Stacy Zink, reflected on her experience: “To be able to come to Sanborn Mills and learn from an expert and immerse myself in my own pieces and be nourished with all of the delicious food and the peaceful surroundings is really what I needed to rejuvenate myself and to come back to my work excited and refreshed.”

Our upcoming Online Auction, opening Monday, September 1st, is a vital way to ensure that craft education at Sanborn Mills Farm remains accessible to all. Each item in the auction tells its own story and connects back to the community we’re building. Imagine carrying home a quarter-bushel CSA share for the 2026 season, each basket filled with the same fresh produce our students eat while staying on-site. Picture a midweek escape to the Woodstock Inn, a quiet retreat where you can reflect and recharge. You might hang a fine art giclée print by Julia Whitney Barnes on your wall or cook a family meal in a hand-forged steel cookware set that’s been shaped with skill and care by Ian McCarthy.

These treasures are more than just auction items—they’re invitations. Invitations to connect with makers, to bring beauty into your home, and most of all, to invest in a future where craft education is accessible to all. Every bid you place and every gift you give strengthens our Scholarship Fund and ensures that more students will have the chance to learn in a way that might just transform their lives.
