Fabric Block Printing and Pattern Design:

A Deep Dive

ONLY TWO SPOTS LEFT!

If you’ve ever been drawn to the bold, tactile beauty of hand-printed textiles, this weekend workshop with Susana McDonnell of LinoCave offers the perfect opportunity to dive in.

Susana will guide students through every step of the block printing process—from designing patterns and carving blocks to experimenting with inking methods and layering prints on fabric. Her demonstrations emphasize both technique and play, allowing participants to build skills while finding their own rhythm and style. With ample time for hands-on practice, students can explore how different textures, colors, and patterns interact, resulting in one-of-a-kind creations.

All materials and supplies will be provided, though participants are encouraged to bring their own pre-washed fabric items—tote bags, tea towels, or yardage—to personalize with their own prints.

Susana brings a wealth of experience and contagious enthusiasm to her teaching. Based in Boston, she runs LinoCave, a home studio focused on geometric pattern design and block printing on both fabric and paper. A lifelong artist, she holds a BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and has explored a wide range of mediums including glassblowing, neon, wood, drawing, and watercolor. While block printing is one of the few forms she hasn’t formally studied, her passion for the craft has led her to teach and experiment daily. She is also the co-host of @printersolstice, an international printmaking challenge that inspires artists around the world each winter, and serves as a Speedball Demo Artist.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with beautifully printed textiles as well as new skills, fresh ideas, and a deeper appreciation for this art form.
