Introduction to 19th Century Tinsmithing

Taught by: Richard Eckert

Workshop Fee: $340.00

Join Master Tinsmith Richard Eckert for a fascinating look into the history and craft of historic household tin. Students will learn the basics of what comprised an early to mid-19th-century tinsmith shop. Learn what roles tinsmiths played from the local to national level, and how it evolved over time. What was the material used? How did one learn the trade? Where did they sell products?

This is a hands-on workshop using period tools and machines to replicate various items, including a cup, sconce, chamberstick, extinguisher, and more if time allows.

Please come prepared for variable April temperatures in this partially heated Tinsmith Shop. Dress in layers!

Materials Fee: $45 paid directly to the instructor.

Special Tools or Equipment to bring: Notepad, large drafting paper if students would like to copy the instructor’s patterns. Consider insulated layered clothing for early spring in New Hampshire.
