Crafting with Birch Bark

Workshop Fee: $144.00

This workshop will explore the amazing qualities of the inner bark of the paper birch tree. Students will begin by creating a double woven diagonal plaited basket. In the afternoon students will shift focus to birch bark ornaments, where you will learn to transform strips of bark into birds and stars utilizing techniques inspired by Scandinavian and Russian basketry traditions. Included in this workshop there will be a discussion on how to responsibly harvest and prepare the bark, deepening your understanding of the material. No prior experience is necessary.

  • folding and weaving bark into 3-dimensional objects

 

Materials Fee: $80 paid directly to the instructor.
