Rib Style Willow Harvest Basket

Workshop Fee: $288.00

In this two day class, open to all levels, students will learn how to make a beautiful and functional willow basket. We will discuss the basics of rib style willow basketry along with the methods of growing, gathering and processing willow for weaving. We will prepare rims and handles, learn lashing and traditional weaving techniques so that you will have the knowledge to go on and make more baskets on your own. Good hand strength is necessary. If you are able to, please bring a pair of garden shears or secateurs.

Skills and Techniques:

  • Methods of growing, gathering and processing willow for use in Basketry
  • Prepare rims and handles for rib style willow basketry
  • Lashing rim and handles together
  • Adding ribs and weaving the sides of the basket
  • Filling in the weaving to complete the basket
  • Trim ends to finish the basket

 

Materials Fee: $50 at the time of workshop
