Hen Basket

This workshop will lead students through the construction of a rib-style, hen basket using willow. Beginning with pre-formed hoops, we’ll start with the handle, and work to add ribs to create volume and shape. Weavers will fill in the form to finish this stunning and functional basket. Previous experience with weaving rib-style willow baskets is recommended, but not required. Alternative options and/or extra projects will be available to students who may finish projects at different paces.

Note: Willow basketry is incredibly physically demanding. Please take this into consideration if there is any tenderness or limitations in your hands, wrists, elbows and/or shoulders.

Skills and Techniques:

• Assembling hoops
•  Forming and inserting ribs
• Conditioning the willow
• Weaving throughout the frame
• Trimming and finishing the form

Materials Fee: $150 paid directly to the instructor

Special Tools or Equipment: All tools required will be provided for use during the class.
